Bilger Morgan Alto (1980's) 7E
This is an original condition vintage Bilger-Morgan 7E alto mouthpiece. This piece measures .080” on my gauge. This is the Excalibur version of Ralph’s design with a classic medium chamber.
This mouthpiece is the predecessor to the current Morgan mouthpiece company. Ralph Morgann and David Bilger began working together while Ralph was still with the Selmer Company initially as a side project. I think Bilger- Morgan mpcs began as an official partnership around 1980 right after Ralph left Selmer. After that their relationship developed into a business partnership in which Dave play tested and contributed ideas in the design process and Ralph made the mouthpieces. Eventually they had a parting of ways over how the business should be run and parted company around 1990.
This saxophone mouthpiece model has been available since the mid-1980s and continues to be among the best selling of the Morgan tenor mouthpieces. The Excalibur model features a streamline body profile and thin interior walls for more brilliance akin to a metal mouthpiece
