Here is a vintage ARB "Great Neck Original 6*" hard rubber tenor piece. This piece has been opened from .103" to .108" by Sebastian Knox.

The ARB in the name stands for Arnold Ross Brillhart, one of the pioneers of American saxophone mouthpiece manufacturing. His career in design and manufacture went back to the 1930's and continued until his death in the 1980's. In the late 1970's Brilhart partnered with his former employee and friend, Elmer Beechler to produce the ARB mouthpieces. The "Great Neck Originals" were produced from leftover stock of "Brilhart" branded pieces. It's unclear whether or not the "Hard Rubber" versions were NOS or produced at that time.

The "Hard Rubber" model for tenor features a tighter core, higher beak and flatter, lower baffle when compared to an Otto Link Tone Edge. This design produces a very clear, warm sound that is easy to play and control. The smaller chamber combined with lower baffle is a wonderful combination that feels like vintage HR Brilharts of the past.
